AI traffic analytics
AI traffic analytics separates AI crawler visits from referral traffic sent by AI assistants using your site's access logs. This is different from measuring brand mentions or product appearances in AI answers.
What you can inspect
| Information | What to check |
|---|---|
| AI crawler visits | Which crawler accessed which page and when. |
| AI referral traffic | Site visits whose referrer is identified as an AI assistant. |
| Visit history | Timestamps, paths, User-Agents, status codes, and other fields from received visit events. Fields absent from the source remain empty. |
Crawler classification uses information such as the User-Agent. Referral traffic is identified from the referrer URL. A visit does not directly prove that the page was cited in an AI answer. See crawler verification for identification methods.
Start a connection
The current setup screen offers Vercel. Use an account that can manage the target website and its Vercel project. Review the access requirements and steps in the Vercel log connection guide.
- Open Websites → Analytics in the intended workspace.
- Select the target domain and choose Vercel in setup.
- In Vercel's authorization screen, check the team and project that will send logs.
- After connecting, check whether logs are being received.
See Getting started for the site registration and setup flow.
Check connection and delivery separately
A connected status does not by itself mean access logs have arrived. Visit the target website, then check the delivery status again in setup.
Even when logs arrive, AI crawler and AI referral totals can be empty if no such visits have occurred. Check the domain, date range, and log destination in that order.
How this differs from GA4
GA4 measures browser behavior and events. Access-log analysis can also cover requests from crawlers that do not execute JavaScript. GA4 and Vercel log connections are separate settings; connecting one does not automatically deliver the other's data.
Interpret results
Compare visits, crawlers, and pages for the same domain and date range. Collection location and delivery settings affect coverage. When a value is zero, distinguish an absence of visits from logs that have not arrived.
